Operation Namibia (ON) was initiated in 1975 by the Philadelphia Namibia Action Group. ON was an international non-violent direct action campaign to draw attention to South Africa’s illegal control of Namibia. The major project the campaign developed was “Books for a free Namibia”: to send a sailing ship with an international crew to Namibia.
